“Mangochi Rising: From Lake Shores to Smart Cities & Sustainable Growth.”
“UTM’s vision will transform Mangochi into Malawi’s jewel of lakeside tourism, mineral value chains, and urban innovation.”
Dr. Dalitso Kabambe – UTM Presidential Candidate 2025
Mangochi, graced by Lake Malawi and nestled near Cape Maclear and Makanjira, stands at the convergence of tourism, minerals, and cultural heritage. Yet, despite its immense potential, Mangochi suffers from inadequate infrastructure, informal settlements, and low-value exports. UTM envisions Mangochi as a progressive smart-district—integrating eco-luxury tourism, value-added mining, agro-industries, and resilient infrastructure into vibrant township and village hubs.
Core Vision:
Context & Challenges: Although Mangochi has fertile lands and water access, agriculture remains low-value due to fragmented production, lack of irrigation, and minimal processing facilities.
Locations: Makanjira plains, Chitimba, and Mangochi hinterlands
UTM Pledges:
Investment: MK 150 Billion
Jobs: 12,000
Output: 400,000 MT/year
Impact: Food security, farmer incomes, agro-industrial growth

Investment: MK 80 Billion
Jobs: 4,500
Impact: Local supply chains, construction input, export potential
Context & Challenges: Inadequate roads, digital access, and power shortages limit tourism, mining, and agriculture in Mangochi.

UTM Pledges:
Investment: MK 50 Billion
Jobs: 2,500
Impact: Skilled workforce, healthcare access, digital capacity
Context & Challenges: Deforestation and climate change threaten lake-edge communities, while water pollution and unsustainable farming persist.

UTM Pledges:
Investment: MK 20 Billion
Jobs: 2,000
Impact: Ecological restoration, sustainable energy, agro resilience
Administered by: Mangochi District Development Agency (MDDA)
Context & Structure: Despite Mangochi’s vast potential, investment has historically been fragmented and insufficient.
